3 Easy Tips in Packing Breakable Items Published on Sunday, 25 April 2010 Removals can be a life changing experience. There is a lot of worry involved in moving important belongings including the breakable items. If you can't afford to hire professionals to pack the items for you, you must know how to carefully and securely pack fragile objects to prevent damage during the move. Packing tip #1: Choose the Right Materials Cardboard boxes may be suitable for towels and shoes but when it comes to glassware and vases, you need something more than that. Makes sure that the boxes you buy are sturdy and the right size. You'll also need sturdy packing tapes to secure the box. Reinforce the tapes by taping the seams twice or thrice and make sure the box is not overloaded with items. Otherwise, you'll risk the bottom of the box falling open during the removals. Packing tip #2: Wrap with Cushioning/Padding Bubble wraps are the most common packing material used to cushion breakable items. Wrap the smooth side of the bubble wrap against the item while the bubbles face the outside. Don't throw away excess bubble wrap, you would need them later on in filling the gaps inside the box to prevent the item from shifting. Packing tip #3: Double Wrap After carefully wrapping the item with bubble wrap, construct a smaller cardboard holder to ensure least possible jostle. Use cardboard sheets to wrap the item and secure it with packing tape. The fragile object can now be placed inside the box, ideally alone or with just a few other similar objects.
